Happy Women's Day!!

Another Women's day is here. International Women's day I must rather say.. Celebrated to honour women all across the planet.

Honour my foot!!

But my question is does the world ‘International’ exclude India?

They treat women like a piece of @%#$ and celebrate women's day to cover that all up. They will stand up and bow to the women power on March 8 every year to justify the rest 364 days of the year.

The gentry of the society will hold seminars, award functions to show respect to women liberation, honour their achievements and celebrate their abilities.
As soon as this day passes, things get back to normal.

Indians are big time hypocrites. Their mythology, their culture tells them to treat women like goddess- they worship young girls in the days of Navratri, and as soon as it is over, they do not hesitate to kill their unborn and even born baby girls in the greed of a son who would lead them to Moksha. How justified is it to kill a living being in the desire of a state beyond your own life which none has seen?? How could they have the guts to abandon a new born baby in the trash bins to let them be scratched by strays?

Girls do not get an education as their parents think it will be useless for them. At times they are deprived of education to help the parents bring up their younger siblings or just because they can work as maids and earn an extra bite.

As per the culture, they have to treat their women- their daughters in law, wives as goddess Lakshmi that symbolises wealth and prosperity but they do not fear while beating them up for not bringing the cash and kind in- from their parents as in dowry. They are not afraid to burn them alive, to hang them to ceiling fans, to make them pop sleeping pills and what not.

The plight of widows is not hidden from anyone here. They are looked upon as inauspicious beings. They are deprived of basic amenities of life, be it food or bedding.

Prostitution is a social evil that has emerged from the desires of men in the dark of the night; in the day light, those same women are treated as untouchables who satisfy their needs. I wonder how do they provide their services without being touched.

I ask why the women in their own vicinity cannot breathe free. Why do have to think before stepping out of their homes? Why do they have to bother about eve teasing? Why cannot they wear apparels of their choice? Why are they treated as an object of lust and not as a human being?

Rape victims in our country as treated as if the accident caused to them was their own mistake.
Coming on to those big names, who think of themselves as the contractors of religion and culture. Who has given them an authority to touch another woman who is none of their concern in the first place let alone beating them up?

I fail to understand this funda, that in a country with such hollow society, one section celebrates the women’s day..

Oh by the way, Happy Women’s Day!!

You know what I think of women in general, so I wont really try to play the feminist.

But yes, what you say is so very true. And I'm totally in agreement.

first of.. sexy template woman!! LOVED it...
as for the position of women in india, i'm confused now.. while there is a class that has progressed and woman are getting places and scaling heights, there is definitely another section where all the social problems you mentioned do exist. although, i would say, our country has come a long way from where it was.. but then i guess somewhere down the road, it has stopped going forward.

Yes, I quite agree with the post, a very well written one must say! :) India has a mix of both, the uneducated exploited woman as well as the liberated career woman.

But this whole debate about womens' emancipation is a tad over-rated I think. The reality is something in stark contrast to what is being made out, the career woman herself may be a victim of domestic violence. And this sure takes a lot of effort to change. And it is we who really have to make the difference, rather be the difference. :)

yeah you pointed out the facts very well girl!
Wonder if our society is actully progressing where women are being considered or its all big show out there celebrating womens day.. especially nowadays women are not even being allowed to walk free on the streets too in some places or allowed to wear what they want...
wonder when this is all gonna stop!

when you ask if the word ‘International’ exclude India, why do u think its only in India that women are treated bad? and why do u think in india al women are treated bad? there would be sections and its sad when people generalize them. i live in india and have never witnessed a women being ill treated cos of her gender. Of course that doesnt say that no women is ill treated. but that also tells us that not every men treat women bad!
i felt that your words came out of frustration seeing the ugly things that happened around us lately, and yes, at many places I have heard of girls childs being killed before they know wut's life. But richa, it hurts when some one generalize such a shameful act.

be proud to be a woman cos i believe they are much stronger emotionally than a man and from experience I would any day say that a man needs a woman to support him on his bad phase, he cannot survive without this support.

happy holi to you and your family.

Your ventings does hold good in India. Not to mention the fact that its the same with every day we celebrate - be it Independence Day, Republic day, labour Day etc...

But to be a little optimistic about the coming days, better to do something than blame the whole system...

Visiting the page for the first time, you do come across as a frank strong minded individual.

Keep empowering !!

@ Tara
yes, we have to be the difference. this is evidient in all sections of the society. the only difference is tht the educated women bear with it cuz of their family values or say respect/ status in the society and we dont get to know much of these things.

Richa said...

@ Charmed one
this will stop only wen we'll stop bearing with it :)

@ Sawan
thnx for ur views, but i wud say, i nowhere said tht all men treat women bad. All i said is tht women are treated badly. and not this is frustration, this is a hard hitting fact. and i am really glad u havent seen or heard such things in ur vicinity. ai really am.

and about female, infanticide and feoticide, lemme tell u, since u tuned in late, tht i volunteer for RED CROSS, so i come across such things everyday almost.

I am proud of being a woman, and thnx really for realising tht women are stronger than men, all they lack is physical power and some men and also women make wrong use of this.

Richa said...

@ Arjun
ths right, it is gradual, we all have to take steps to remve tht :)

Well expressed. It's really unfortunate that in this country, we still face the troubles. A while back, something like this happened near our college as well, which I must add, is located in the NCR. If this is the state of affairs in the Capital region of the country, what about the rest of the country?
