That Awkward Moment

Age is just a number.
दिल के बहलाने को ग़ालिब ये ख़याल अच्छा है.

I will be 28 in a few months. I don't know, may be it is one of those days. This morning, this thought struck to me like a lightening bolt. 'What am I doing with my life?' Mid life crisis too soon may be.
10 years ago, I was a proud person, an independent person who had this feeling that I have the liberty to take the decisions of my life. I dint know back then, that the decision I have been taking are not considered as life decisions.
Today, when I look back in the past 10 years, I realize that I have not taken a single decision for my life. Which I could. I did not take a decision, when I should have. But like Geet said in Jab we met, I chose this life for myself, therefore I have no right to crib about it.
I have no idea what to do and how to do. Its just a phase, I'll get back to normal in another 2-3 days I know.

Don't Quit!

Someone from knows  committed suicide apparently because of too much debt.
People who commit suicide want to end things in an easy way. Is suicide an escape, a easy way out to end things?
Debt, like in this case, doesn't end with a life. The people left behind still owe it.
It needs courage to kill oneself. If only this courage was used requiting adverse situations.

Probably this is a reason why suicide helplines exist. For people need counseling.

Spinelessness

A news item in the local paper caught my attention 2 days back.

A family gave up their 2 year old daughter to two unknown women on a Two wheeler near Golden Temple, Amritsar because they wanted to their daughter to be in the local orphanage. Now, they have made a fuss out of it that the unknown women kidnapped their daughter, because she has not reached the orphanage yet, that is one week after they gave her up.

First thing first, when you have given up your daughter, how does it matter to you if she has reached the orphanage or kidnapped or done anything with.

Spinelessness has a new facet to it. Yeah, right. Parents wanted their child to get good food, good environment they could not provide. How mean is that. reminds me of the part from 'A thousand Splendid Suns' when  Laila and Mariam have to give up their daughter Aziza.

Absolutely inhuman.

I am There. Almost.

One of those days when I just can't take it anymore. The dam is on the verge of breaking. Seeing the folks helpless and knowing the reason is me. Sick. Very.

RIP

This post is dedicated to all the people I have not exactly loved and lost.
Started my morning with a very shitty news. A worker from our factory passed away in an accident. Senior most employee of our organization. He was way past the retirement age and came to workplace because he had nothing else to do at home. He just sat and ordered the other workers around. We used to laugh about him that he behaves like he was the owner. :) I remember him from ever since I remember my life.
He was hit by a train while he was trying to go past a closed railway crossing. We Indians will never understand that the safety measures are meant for our own safety. What a cruel way.

May the departed soul Rest in Peace.
This feeling is weird. I was shocked when I was first told the news. Then there was utter sadness. Knowing someone from all your life and suddenly finding out that they have been cruelly taken away is absolutely weird.
Somehow, I am reminded of my school bus driver- Lakhwinder uncle. I knew him ever since I remember going to school. I got to know about his demise a few moths after he actually passed away. I had passed out of school then. I had the same feeling then as well.
The law of nature is, whoever is born has to go away.

May God be with all and one..

Transitions

There are times when we come across people who we think are our soul-mates. Who understand us, who complete us. With who, we can share our deepest, darkest secrets. With who, we can be ourselves. We can verbalize our stupid-est of thoughts and deepest desires with them.
I too have met some people like that.
For me, every time, that has been a phase. It happened and it went away. Those people left. And then I realized those very people robbed me, they stole my dreams, took away my wishes. As if I was just a source for them. Source of Ideas.

People use.

Soul-mates are actually sole-mates, who become Sore-mates and also Sour-mates.

P.S. This post is NOT about Love.

Kya kisi ki Zindagi ki keemat itni kam hai humari Country mein?

  • A man burns his step son alive in a furnace.
  • A man inspired from 'Silence of the Lambs', slaughters wife and keep the pieces stored in a deep refrigerator and dumps one piece at a time at different places away from each other.
  • Dead bodies being found in unclaimed suitcases at different places.
  • A woman shot in Delhi during daylight.

These all are recent homicides that were hyped by media. My concern is not whether or not they should be punished, my concern is, how on Earth do people manage to literally kill someone. People havepower to bring a life to the world, who  gave them the liberty to take away someone's life?
I would like to believe that murders are human beings too. Minus the humanity?
How does their soul their conscious allow them to go ahead and literally butcher someone to death? Does their conscious say nothing to them? Or do they overhear their inner voice? Are they atheists? Do not their hands shiver for once before taking a life? Who are they to deprive someone of their life? Are they plain selfish? What is their authority over another person's mortality?
A part of my soul shakes inside when I read/ hear about a murder. All I can come up with is this dialogue from 'No-one Killed Jessica'. Kya kisi ki zindagi ki keemat itni kam hai humaari Country mein?

May God be with everyone.

Son or Investment?

Why do people raise their sons as if they are investing in an asset which will pay back itself when he gets married?
Having a son in our society is considered as a blessing. Not just because it is a belief that sons can carry forward their legacy, their family name, but people bring up their sons lot more affectionately, luxuriously, spoiling them, fulfilling all their relevant and irrelevant demands because their perception is, that in the end, when we get him married, we will cash all the investment with interest.
And, in case, the son is NRI, or somehow living in 'foreign land' immaterial of the tourist/ student/ work visa, then, the parents tend to think that their son has found some major treasure which can be en cashed after finding a suitable girl, (oh wait. Girl is suitable or not, doesn't make any difference) whose parents eagerly get ready to send their daughter to 'videsh' (on a very unrelated note, do watch this movie videsh/ Heaven on Earth featuring Preity Zinta, it portrays very well the plight of a girl sent off to foreign land to get married, but it has a high degree of super-normal fiction in the second half).
So, it happened this way. A family in my knowns, got their daughter, lets call her M, married to a man who lives in Australia who is basically son, lets call him H, of a close deceased friend and a neighbor of M's father. M was pursuing her masters degree in English Honors, but if we look at her for the first time, anyone can have the impression that she goes to school in some 7th or 8th grade. Yes, she looks that naive and little.
Anyway, So the H's mother practically begs M's father to get the children married, because with her son living in Australia, she has nobody around by the time she and her prospective daughter-in-law go to settle down with the son. M's parents are allured by the 'videsh' prospectives and get ready for the marriage.
H came home last year in March and the wed lock happened. H went back to Australia and apparently started trying to 'import' the wife. M's spouse visa was rejected and she was staying back at her in-law house with her mother-in-law. Meanwhile, the mother-in-law started pushing M to get her parent's buy luxury items for their daughter. AC, LCD, fridge to name some. Parents, did all their best to make M's life comfortable as long as she is in India.
Meanwhile, H's behavior towards M started changing. The phone conversations became tiring and abusive, taunting and tearing when he blamed M's parents for not 'sponsoring' their daughter to Australia. Also, H is hell bent on applying M's visa for New Zealand instead of Melbourne where he lives, and says, he will keep visiting her once a week.
All said and done, M's parents, brought their daughter back home. Now M, 3 months pregnant (H visited in February), with nowhere to go, nothing to do is hopeless.
Sounds familiar? Happens every now and then and with a lot many people.
Videsh, could be alluring. But the truth is, its the girl who suffers the most. Your son could be an investment, but people's daughters are not a lifetime liability that has be paid off and paid off and paid off.

Anger is short-lived madness.

A friend of mine got engaged recently. Her parents, like an ideal Indian family, gave gifts to the potential in-laws. Expensive gifts. Cash, jewelery, electronics. Only thing in mind that their daughter will live a comfortable life after she is married.
The relationship dint somehow work out. lets not go into details.

When it came to returning the gifts, the boy's family, in the first place dint return cash at all. That was in thousands. Some of the jewelery came back, not all of it. But the electronics including the cell phone the girl gave to the guy on his birthday came broken into pieces. Among the broken other things were microwave oven.

How disgusting people are. I generally don't get upset. But at times like these, I am forced to think that people have no self respect. All they have is ego. And they do not think about their respect when doing things.
Anger is spontaneous, just one letter short of Danger. You don't stop to think what you are doing and you might repent after you have done things and at times not even bother.

But the point is, whatever the reason be of break up, why on the face of earth do people lose their mind and try their best to hurt people. Whatever emotional damage is done, why the financial damage has to be done? Is it like the girl's family were in-debtors of the guy's family? that they had to pay them in lakhs and suffer loss?

Since everything we buy in market is Chinese, in my opinion, the relationships these days have learnt the basic feature too. Chale to chaand tak, varna shaam tak.

Why Me!!

For a change, this post isnt going to be Grammar and language oriented one.

The title of the post is apt. I am tired of saying "God try me". Rabb ji mera 'try' ka button press kar ke bhool gaye lagta hai.

I woke up in a rotten mood today. Why rotten, dont ask me. Might be some dream I dont remember. To add on to it, I felt inflated. AAArrggghhhh!! Gym me haddiyaan tudwa ke pagal ho gayi hoon and fir bhi inflated!! Kya musibat hai.
Zindagi jhandwa wala din hai aaj.

Was talking to a friend online and she was super pissed off on the very same old problem- shaadi. I fail to understand, is shaadi the centre of the universe?
I fail to understand the folks. They inculcate you with ambitions while you are growing up. Kuch karo, kuch banke dikhaao. Aur jab turn aati hai kuch ban ke dikhane ki toh pata nahi kahan se beech mein ye shaadi tapak padti hai. Shaadi karo. Acha aur to aur, pehle to sara din padho- padho aur kuch mat karo, aur fir suno padhayi mein reh gaye, koi ladka dhoondh hi lete. Kya musibat hai.
Okay, I love my folks, I know whatever they do is for my own best, but I am cribbing today. Dint I say I am rotten mood.

Aur suno abhi. Kuch log itne mean hote hain. Jab apna mann kara aa gaye mooh uthha ke aur jab zaroorat nahi hai toh poocho bhi na mud ke that why aren't you talking? Do you have some problem? As if the other person is problem-proof and emotions-proof.
As if hum to wehle hain. I am tired of being at some one else's disposal. Mujhe zyada aakhar aayi hui hai jo I have to drag the relationship? ( Am I the only desperate one?)
Koi na. Gin Gin ke badle loongi.

Sabse badi musibat toh batana bhool hi gayi. Yaar padhayi karna bada hi aukha kaam hai. (hard, difficult job). Aiwen hi bina zaroorat ki musibat mol le li hai maine!! Phew!! *Drains sweat off the forehead*

Bas haan bas. Kaafi hai aaj ke liye.

AAARRGGGHHH!!!

Yes this is what I feel like now. I had a bad bad day.

  • Woke up to an unexpectedly HOT day.
  • Roads were jamm packed.
  • People donot have traffic senses.
  • Auto-rickshaw drivers have a notion that the roads have been gifted to them as a part of election campaign or something.
  • When a lady is driving (read- I), people assume that the fault has to be hers.
  • Public sector bank employees feel they are kings of the world.

Saturday, March 21

Some one has rightly said that the hardships and pains of our loved ones is harder to bear than of oneself.
No matter how strong I try to pretend, but it gets real difficult to stay calm when I see them suffering. And specifically when it is your parent, it is killing.

I have to be strong for my mom and brother, and even stronger for my dad, who met with an accident. His injury is not minor, but thank God he is safe and recovering.

Getting hit by a bus is a statement when hears of loses their senses. But the relief was that Dad called up himself and informed us of the happening. His voice seemed tranquil, but since we know he is very strong and tolerant, we could not believe until we saw him. I and mom just ran towards the hospital, we were praying for his wellness, too nervous to speak to each other.
When we saw him in the hospital getting dressed, he was calm, but his injury was horrifying. the whole calf was of the left leg was scratched and blood was pouring out literally. the doctor showed us the rear side of the calf where the cut as almost 4 inches deep and the muscles were out on the lose. A chunk of skin was gone.

Had it been someone else, I had puked on the sight of t he injury. But he was my dad. I and Mom were both trying to not get tearful for the sake of each other.

Anyhow, the doctor recommended the X-rays done and thank God, no fracture was detected.
Bandages done, he was shifted to the room. Appointment was given for the operation to stitch the muscles and skin of late night. They took 2 hours inside the OT. The whole family, relatives and friends was wandering outside the OT waiting for dad to come out.

We have been on the run since three days. Thankfully, he is fine now and recovering. But since the leg is involved, he will take time to recover and additional as he is already diabetic. All we can do is pray. We cant thank God enough for saving him from a major injury.
I am writing this down to empty myself. I haven't shed a tear. And thanks for all your wishes- Already.

Happy Women's Day!!

Another Women's day is here. International Women's day I must rather say.. Celebrated to honour women all across the planet.

Honour my foot!!

But my question is does the world ‘International’ exclude India?

They treat women like a piece of @%#$ and celebrate women's day to cover that all up. They will stand up and bow to the women power on March 8 every year to justify the rest 364 days of the year.

The gentry of the society will hold seminars, award functions to show respect to women liberation, honour their achievements and celebrate their abilities.
As soon as this day passes, things get back to normal.

Indians are big time hypocrites. Their mythology, their culture tells them to treat women like goddess- they worship young girls in the days of Navratri, and as soon as it is over, they do not hesitate to kill their unborn and even born baby girls in the greed of a son who would lead them to Moksha. How justified is it to kill a living being in the desire of a state beyond your own life which none has seen?? How could they have the guts to abandon a new born baby in the trash bins to let them be scratched by strays?

Girls do not get an education as their parents think it will be useless for them. At times they are deprived of education to help the parents bring up their younger siblings or just because they can work as maids and earn an extra bite.

As per the culture, they have to treat their women- their daughters in law, wives as goddess Lakshmi that symbolises wealth and prosperity but they do not fear while beating them up for not bringing the cash and kind in- from their parents as in dowry. They are not afraid to burn them alive, to hang them to ceiling fans, to make them pop sleeping pills and what not.

The plight of widows is not hidden from anyone here. They are looked upon as inauspicious beings. They are deprived of basic amenities of life, be it food or bedding.

Prostitution is a social evil that has emerged from the desires of men in the dark of the night; in the day light, those same women are treated as untouchables who satisfy their needs. I wonder how do they provide their services without being touched.

I ask why the women in their own vicinity cannot breathe free. Why do have to think before stepping out of their homes? Why do they have to bother about eve teasing? Why cannot they wear apparels of their choice? Why are they treated as an object of lust and not as a human being?

Rape victims in our country as treated as if the accident caused to them was their own mistake.
Coming on to those big names, who think of themselves as the contractors of religion and culture. Who has given them an authority to touch another woman who is none of their concern in the first place let alone beating them up?

I fail to understand this funda, that in a country with such hollow society, one section celebrates the women’s day..

Oh by the way, Happy Women’s Day!!

Messed Up

I am all messed up.. That is all what I know as for now..
May be I dunno how to handle emotions, or I just feel, this time the gush of the flow is too heavy to handle..
I am in a kind of awkward situation. I am big time mixed up. I dunno which emotion to pick up..
I am furious, I dunno why..
I am low, I dunno why..
I feel saved, I thank God for it..
I wanna cry, but tears dun help me...
I wanna scream, but dun feel like even opening my mouth..
I feel nauseated...
I have exhausted myself, but still I dont feel like sleeping..

Though it is something, I never dignified enough to even talk about, I thought it had stopped affecting me.. But I just dont understand...
I am writing it, I thought, writing it up could help me understand what exactly am I feeling...

Emotions... I guess this is what happens when emotions take over, and you generally avoid the encounter with them.. I thought I am stronger, and I can very well take care of my emotions rather than being 'emotional fool'... But that could be done only when yon understand what you are going through.. The sudden and such random outburst of the 'dam' that held back emotions is not acceptable..

My reticence has slipped to the background somewhere.. This certainly is not 'Being Richa'..
I dint wanna publish this post, but somehow I feel, I need the feedback..
I could close the comments to this post, but somehow, I think I need the feedback...

December has been full of emotions on lower notes, I hope they end with the year too... But Cha.alo, I'll manage, or say I have to...

Blood Brothers

On the 'World AIDS Day' , presenting one of the most beautiful short movies- Blood Brothers directed by Vishal Bhardwaj..

The question is- Had you been in Ayesha Takia's shoes, would you have forgiven your beau on finding out he/ she had cheated on you? And your reaction after discovering the non existence of the virus??

Is only 'Fair' the 'Lovely'?

As I walked towards the cosmetics counter, the girl behind the desk (trying to chipkaao something or the other) literally ran towards me and said "Ma'am ye product dekhiye- aapki skin type ke liye best hai, use to kar ke dekho- aapki sari tanning hat jayegi- Ma'am- take my word- laao main try karwati hoon aapko". She was trying to sell me a fairness product.

I mean what the hell!! I am simply in love with my complexion. I am thankful for being blessed with a perfect wheatish complexion and I have no intentions whatsoever to get gori or gorier. I have no personal grudges against these sales girls- they get paid for identifying the potential customers to buy their fairness enhancing products- they are doing what their job is. Neither do I curse these FMCG companies cuz I understand they are doing their business- they just hit the target right- minting money taking advantage of the firangi procreated complex in Indians regarding their complexions.

Gimme a break dude!! its been over 60 years they are gone from our country and we are no more blacks. We are Indians- and we look best wheatish.

Check out the most b'ful actresses in bollywood- Madhu Bala, Hema Malini, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Sonali Bendre, Rani Mukherjee, Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen- aint they lovely? And are they fair?? And those who want to argue about Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai being Fair and Lovely, they are requested to give one serious thought on- do they look Indian enough?

Not just the organizations and their employees, this society of ours is full of people who are discriminating on the basis of complexion- specifically girls- darker girls are looked down upon- they are not perceived to be pretty. Everyone knows of the problems faced by their poor parents in getting them married. Several shows on the Indian prime time are showcasing the low about darker girls- I need not illume much on that.

What I fail to understand is, we live in Indian society, where more than 50 percent of people are on the wheatish side and very less fit in the category of gori or gora (and they do not satisfy the Indian beauty standards- at least in my opinion) and still we have to face such bullshit from one or the other person- I too have come across some real mean comments on my complexion when I actually do not fit in the category of Dark (No Offences Intended). I mean who says we do not practice Apartheid in India?

Okay, ask any Indian girl what qualities would they like in their partner- their instant reply would be- Tall, Dark, Handsome. When Men are desired to be darker, dont you understand this darkness cannot be subsided in coming generations- are you ready to mingle your Fairness with darkness? If yes, why do you bother being Fairer?

I don not understand why do people wan to be fairer? I myself have a few friends who are very conscious about their complexion and I guess they would have emptied about a tonn kilogram of fairness products till date on their faces and have try every possible way to get one shade fairer.. They would have applied every possible thing Freon the Daadi Maa Nuskha diary on their faces ranging from malai to a spice called Kalaunji, from milk to potato (I know of few as I have been un wantingly suggested many times).

Those Firangs, they ruled us for over 400 years, and we are still living the inferiority complexes they planted within our society to make themselves superior. Now those whites, allured with the darker shades, are spending millions of dollars and pounds on inventing technologies to get tans- they get expensive treatments for getting one shade darker and we are still wishing to be fairer..

I mean guys, Wake up!! 2008 is almost gone and we might be left with another 4 years to live on this planet - (if we believe the theory of 12 Dec 2012 :D), we got much more important things to do than to bother about being one shade lighter.

And as Michael Jackson puts it,

"You're thinkin' of
Being my brother
It don't matter if you're
Black or white

Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now
Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now

It's black, it's white
It's tough for you to get by
It's black , it's white, whoo

It's black, it's white
It's tough for you to get by
It's black , it's white, whoo"

(Sh)It Happens!!

Yeah I borrowed the title!!
But I juz feel to scratch someone (read: The laughing idiot) with my nails..
Last weekend I did not have company to watch the long awaited "Rock on" and this weekend, before I could ask anyone to come along, I hate the idea, but the movie has been replaced by Navjot Singh Siddhu's debutant "Mera Pind" in whole of Amritsar!!
Shit Shit Shit!!!
Now I have to wait for the DVD obviously pirated (I feel embrassed confessing that my Desktop doesnot co-operate me in torrents but anyhow I love Limewire), till then, "I'll miss you Bollywood". but Cha.alo, I'll manage (I will have to- no way out).
Yeah, Singh is Kinng is the only new arrival I managed to sneak on DVD, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Mumbai meri jaan, Via Darjeeling, Ugly-Pagli, Mughal-e- Azam (yeah I intend to watch both one for Bose and other for Shorrey) and loads more are in the queue still.. :(

The Insensitive Me

I know I am being Insensitive, but I can't help it!! Its been almost 4 days and I've cramped my tummy, but still its hard for me to stop laughing.

I know I should not spill the beans over here (but as I just said I know I am being insensitive). All out of the blues, out of nowhere, most unexpectedly, I find myself into a hyper weird teenage situation and I am wondering how to tackle with it.

What do you do when your 'long forgotten
childhood crush'
dedicates the most romantic song made in the history of Bollywood (no, I am not opening bets for guessing the song right) to you purposely and tells you that he still feels for you seriously?? Now someone tell me what else would they do besides laughing in such a state?

I mean it is heights.. I really do not know what to say and I am saying all wrong things that would surely hurt him, besides, I am finding it amusing when things like "I cant treat u as a friend anymore" are shot on and I cant help laughing on being (un)-dignified with the adjectives like "heart-less" (this aint the first time though).

Yeah yeah, I simply aint an 'Emotional Fool'!!

I don't mean to make him the laughing property over here, but I am rather analysing myself on "how insensitive can I get", but even after long hours of third degree torture and question- answer sessions with myself, I still am blank. I am not able to procreate even one feeling. Nothing like I am ignorant, but I have had my share of trouble and dissonances but now I am too convinced to 'eschew any obfuscations'

And I refuse to do a thing about it.

P.S.- Teenage Tips are invited on how to repel such uninvited perplexities.

Wasted

I am panicky, bewildered, and alone in dark. I look into the mirror, I have never seen myself crying like this before, I am confused, I am looking for something, trying to find something or someone, I am fumbling for things in the darkness and out of nowhere I hear my name being called.
I turn around and run towards the voice, I can not see the face, I clasp to that figure and I sob more vigrous. The figure is trying to clam me down, the voice seems known, the face is still unrecognible.
And that figure parts, goes away, I stretch out my hand and try to reach, no use, I can see that figure disappearing in the stark dark far away..
I feel a sensation run through my entire body, the tingle starts from my toe and reaches to my head. I am scared and I am wet with prespiration, and a puff of cold wind tries to freeze me down, I am shaken, I feel too week to stand anymore, my eyes are heavy, I try to open them and I wake in vain..

This is the third consecutive night I have had this dream.. I believe that dreams are the thoughts of the sub conscious mind. What is bothering me that is recurring as the dream. Everythime I wake up after this dream, I am in a state of shock as the sand is slipping through my hands.. And I realize "I dream of rain by Sting" being played at the back of my mind..

Obsession or Love

While swapping the channels last night on the idiot box, I chanced to get a glimpse of the movie ‘Tere Naam’. It was a hit, but I dint like the movie in the first place, though being a movie buff, could not gather my courage to watch it till the end.
This aspect of love scares me, rather it scares everyone.
Blackmailing the other person in the name of love is pure torture.
One side effect of close friendship is when the ‘infatuation’ or ‘liking’ factor arrives in between close friends, carrying on with normal friendship becomes impossible.
I am a common friend to such a case.
The guy started falling for his closest friend. Even though being aware from the day one that she will never get involved, he developed an obsession for her. When it became intolerable for him, he finally told her expecting an explosive reaction from her end. She tried hard to persuade him to be normal with her and forget all this rubbish for old times’ sake. But he came down to emotionally blackmailing her. Threatening her that he will do something to himself and she will be responsible. This mania of his took the girl into depression.
The reasons being-
a) She could not see her once best friend in such pathetic condition,
b) She wanted to get back being friends,
c) She took it to her nerves that someone was suffering because of her.
It is a real distress for a person when someone tries to beguile them inducing into a relationship when they are genuinely not interested.
Some guys take this rejection as their male ego issue, unable to take that how can the girl dump them. And another new season of emotional blackmail, perseverance, and torture starts. Gaining sympathy is one weapon guys generally use with girls. They pretend to be in such pain and wretchedness that the girls commiserate them and fall in the trap and start comforting them. As the time lingers, the girl, who initially had no feelings from the heart for the guy, begins to apprehend the trap, feels ditched. She makes out everything falling in the place and the forced relationship takes the turn towards hatred and reaches height of tolerance and the friendship factor is long forgotten.
The sole motive of this whole crap is I strongly feel that contrived relationships donot work out and the friendship factor also goes in vain. And once it goes, friendship doesn’t come back.
