Illusions.

Love destroys. This is what I thought Rockstar portrayed. Not a review.
Falling in love is very easy. And denying it, even easier. What is difficult, is to not let it burn you inside out. Not being with the one you want to be is like being in a can of worms.

And for people like me, who'd rather stop feeling than feel a lot, the movie was disturbing. I take pride in boasting I have a hold on my emotions. I know how to curb them and not let my heart win over the brain. But there are hell load of people who are on the other side of the line.
And there are times when I think may be they are doing it the right way.

Besides, I want my own JJ with who I can मचाओ as much गंद as I want to  :)

P.S. Shammi Kapoor is was the real RockStar!

P.P.S. I think I liked the movie, but it is going to take another watch to get absorbed.

Take Chances.

We meet people, like them, fall in love, give our best, get hurt, fall out of love, smile and move on, get ready to fall in love all over again.

Not Random

Everyone is going to ditch you a some point of time, its your choice who is worth it.

Being careful is good. But it often leads to paranoia.

People, still are not worth a chance.

To Hell with Spontainity!

Life doesn't go as per the plans. At least, not mine. I had plans, and then, my life happened. *points in the mirror and laughs*
At times, I wonder, if I planned out a suicide (which I most certainly will not), and went to the railway tracks, India will witness a nationwide Train strike or railway failure of some sort.
Like O'Henry wrote in one of his short stories "Many people have achieved many things whose chances of doing so were much inferior than Miss Martha".

When it rained Bombs

This post is based on absolutely true events. The hilarious events of this incidence took place on the early morning of July 29, 2011.

Early morning, means early morning to me, because I was fast asleep. Thank Weather Gods, this year, like I said already, they have been generous in my part of the world, the morning routine (read jog) being on halt because of the rains, the waking up part becomes delayed. (On a totally unrelated note, monsoon, I tell you is the most sinful season of the year. We do not work out and eat a lot, that too pakode, samose et al).

So, getting back to the story, I was fast asleep and I woke up to a loud thud. Thud would be an understatement. Voice of explosion was my first idea. When a person is fast asleep, wait. When a person like ME, is fast asleep, (I like to think myself belonging to the clan of Kumbhkaran. There are other stories behind this association, reserving them for some other time) a meek sound can not wake me up, and if I woke up with a startle, that means something actually huge happened. So, I was startled and surprised, and shocked and stumbled to find my phone and check the time. It was exact 6.00 am.
Because I live 30 kilometers away from Lahore, even though it is a very peaceful area now (touch-wood), first thing that came to my mind was, that we've been attacked from across the border, and air bombing has been happening. The next instant thought was that being under attack was kind of impossible because Miss Hina Rabbani Khar, the honorable Foreign minister of our neighboring country was our guest currently, they wouldn't risk attacking at this moment.
And, then it happened again. There was a huge orange flash outside my window followed by the boom-boom-boom-boom a few seconds later. The simple physics law came to my mind at that time. Light travels faster than sound. That was when I realized, things taught at school stay in our minds, even in the moments of panic. :D

Many other panicky thoughts crossed my mind like being bombed, dying, my parents sleeping in the room downstairs, my brother who is living in the other city. I realized how short life was and how precious every moment spent with our loved ones is. Well. That's how life is. When you think it is coming to an end, you know who you're going to miss. :)

Anyway, the daring* I am (another unrelated note- if you haven't, go watch a dubbed movie called Diler- the daring, starring Chiranviji from Telegu film industry. It airs of Star Gold/ Zee Cinema very often. It is meant to be adventure-thriller, but is comical. Totally worth watching), I decided to go check out what was going on outside. I knew if it was bombing, something could really hurt me if I go outside, still I took the chance.

Throwing the covering sheet away, I marched out of the room, opened the door in the balcony, and stepped out. To find out it was raining. Not drizzling, not cats and dogs, just raining. Initially, it was very hard for my eyes to adapt to the light outside and they were absolutely watery. I rubbed them for sometime to make myself see what was happening. It was still boom-boom-ing from the last explosion. All I could see was rain and pigeons. Lots and lots of pigeons. Panicky. Flying in from the direction of the explosion to the other side and looking for a shelter.

Just to make it clear how did I think too much and how did so many things happened, while the sound of the explosion was still in the air, may I tell you, MY thoughts travel faster than light. :)

Anyway, I stood there for a few minutes. First in the rain, and moved under the shelter, waited for some action to happen again, but it did not. I was, yes, kind of disappointed at first, but my conscious woke up and scolded me for thinking such bad things. :D Then, I decided it had been nothing, but clouds colliding. Like, huge clouds. What else can you do in a situation like this? Compromise on a simpler logic.

I was up, wide awake. I went downstairs to check on my folks. They were up and then we discussed the events over cups of tea on a rainy morning. I told them about my perception only to find out my dad had thought the same. :D WAR. God forbid. Followed by the stories of 1984 and 1989, Operations Blue Star and Black Thunder respectively. Which was very hard time for Punjab. Thankfully, it is over and Punjab is a happy and peaced-out place once again.

Misunderstanding cloud collision with an air bombing is something else and funny, but I really wish nothing of that sort happens again and peace prevails in the world.

P.S. I do not mean to hurt feelings of any nation  and/ or  community with this post, in case, un-intentionally I happened to do so, apologies in advance.

No Closures, No Goodbyes

Do things end just like that? Do you not need to have any closures? Do you not need to say goodbyes?
Some people just do it this easy.
A few days back, I thought closure is sought by someone who is utterly guilty and wants to move on. The one who isn't guilty can linger on without closures. But someone I knew (yes, knew), just ended it.

On second thoughts, I guess my theory still hold right. Because the person in question holds me responsible for the renunciation because I refused to be the source of entertainment for them anymore. I thought they might be guilty, but in fact, with all said and done, well actually, NOTHING said and Something NOT Done, I am the alleged one to have turned sides.
Escapism seems to be a new lifestyle.
But as per my own theory, I shouldn't be seeking closure. Probably their behavior has infested a little guilt at the back of my mind somewhere. I might be wrong, because I chose to stop being at someone's disposal. But like I said, I am no lead heroine of a daily soap.
I always thought nobody does anything wrong on purpose, they'll have a justification for what they did was right from their point of view.
Of course, the person here in question must feel the same way.
I am not going to utter or wish bad things about/ for you, because I can not and will not stoop that low.
Honestly, I am hurt. I dint deserve to be treated like that.
Anyway, be good.

A Prayer for Someone

I feel terrible. Very. Convincing someone something you don't approve of feels that way. I am trying to justify to myself that it is the most practical thing to do right now.
Sometimes, we have to take decisions that wouldn't morally be correct, but this, my friend, is life. Not an Ekta Kapoor's daily soap that we have to have a high voltage drama to survive on prime time. We have got to be practical.
This is something I am highly emotional about, but this has to be done. Its matter of two lives. Two lives.
I wish God be there and be the guiding light for the one this post is about.

Miss you Daadi..

Grand parents are like trees. They never fail to give us shade and fruits, nevertheless we have time to use that shade and fruit.
When a tree goes away to never return, the grandchildren then realize how safe they were.
I will miss you Forever..

Son or Investment?

Why do people raise their sons as if they are investing in an asset which will pay back itself when he gets married?
Having a son in our society is considered as a blessing. Not just because it is a belief that sons can carry forward their legacy, their family name, but people bring up their sons lot more affectionately, luxuriously, spoiling them, fulfilling all their relevant and irrelevant demands because their perception is, that in the end, when we get him married, we will cash all the investment with interest.
And, in case, the son is NRI, or somehow living in 'foreign land' immaterial of the tourist/ student/ work visa, then, the parents tend to think that their son has found some major treasure which can be en cashed after finding a suitable girl, (oh wait. Girl is suitable or not, doesn't make any difference) whose parents eagerly get ready to send their daughter to 'videsh' (on a very unrelated note, do watch this movie videsh/ Heaven on Earth featuring Preity Zinta, it portrays very well the plight of a girl sent off to foreign land to get married, but it has a high degree of super-normal fiction in the second half).
So, it happened this way. A family in my knowns, got their daughter, lets call her M, married to a man who lives in Australia who is basically son, lets call him H, of a close deceased friend and a neighbor of M's father. M was pursuing her masters degree in English Honors, but if we look at her for the first time, anyone can have the impression that she goes to school in some 7th or 8th grade. Yes, she looks that naive and little.
Anyway, So the H's mother practically begs M's father to get the children married, because with her son living in Australia, she has nobody around by the time she and her prospective daughter-in-law go to settle down with the son. M's parents are allured by the 'videsh' prospectives and get ready for the marriage.
H came home last year in March and the wed lock happened. H went back to Australia and apparently started trying to 'import' the wife. M's spouse visa was rejected and she was staying back at her in-law house with her mother-in-law. Meanwhile, the mother-in-law started pushing M to get her parent's buy luxury items for their daughter. AC, LCD, fridge to name some. Parents, did all their best to make M's life comfortable as long as she is in India.
Meanwhile, H's behavior towards M started changing. The phone conversations became tiring and abusive, taunting and tearing when he blamed M's parents for not 'sponsoring' their daughter to Australia. Also, H is hell bent on applying M's visa for New Zealand instead of Melbourne where he lives, and says, he will keep visiting her once a week.
All said and done, M's parents, brought their daughter back home. Now M, 3 months pregnant (H visited in February), with nowhere to go, nothing to do is hopeless.
Sounds familiar? Happens every now and then and with a lot many people.
Videsh, could be alluring. But the truth is, its the girl who suffers the most. Your son could be an investment, but people's daughters are not a lifetime liability that has be paid off and paid off and paid off.

Convenience Rules.

So people say 'friendship is over-rated'. Probably. It is very easy to tell someone how they weren't there for you without realizing how difficult it was for you to be there for them.
Just that, I have learned to be not there for people for who friendship was only a matter of convenience. I do not want to be extra nice, a heroine straight out of Ekta Kapoor serial who will go out of her way and do anything like a super-heroine for someone or anyone. The world is living on convenience, I can too.
No, I know, people will never accept that they weren't there for you, only they have justifications. Nobody does/ says anything 'wrong' on purpose. Everyone has a justification for their every action and every word.
I am purposely being convenient by not being there for you. Because, you taught me it. 'Not being there when needed'. Okay. Thanks. Bye.

Change is the Only Constant

'People change, and forget to tell.'

(This is not a cribbing post but an enlightened one, you may carry on reading!)

Change is the only constant. Weathers change, times change, situations change. Change is the law of nature. Normal is boring. Each one of us needs a change in the course of time. Then why are PEOPLE excepted to not change? They are a portion of this Universe which is meant to change.

The world is like that as they say. One fine day, you wake up and realize that people close to you have changed. They are not as they used to be. It hurts inside. Doesn't it? Is that because of the expectations you have out of them? Probably yes.
Everyday, we meet new people. Life goes on. Some people stay, some leave. Of those, we chose the people who should stay and who should leave. There are times, when people we want to stay, leave. Also, there are times, when people we wanted to leave, stay.

It a circle. its the same for others. Some people want us to stay and some want us to leave. We choose to leave some, we stay with others.
Before you tell someone that they have changed, for one second consider. Question yourself. Are you the same for them? Haven't you changed a bit?
Every one a justification for the change they have brought in themselves. But when it comes to others, it gets in-digestible. Why do we expect others to remain the same for us if we have changed ourselves to them?
Not fair.

When people change, they grow up. They outgrow somethings and develop other things.
You may be a part of their world and may not be. Just like, you leave people behind.

I am not perfect. I hurt people. People hurt me too. But I grow up. Everyone does grow up. This could hurt initially, but we become used to it eventually.

Let people change. It is always for good.

Smile and Move On.

Taking 2010 Steps Ahead..

Another year bites the dust. Like I said last year, this time too, the year passed before I realized.
It has been quiet eventful, more on the low notes both professionally and personally. Anyhow, I really cant wait for this year to end.

The year has been a whole lot of learning.

And the nicest thing I re-discovered was that no matter what happens, your family always stands by you.
In the times of happiness and distress, its the family you look upto, you count on and you cant bear the thought of giving up on them. Believe me, its the most wonderful thing God has adorned us with.

Like each year, things happened, things went right, things went wrong, met new people, became friends, lost some friendships, achieved my goals, missed some objectives, realized things, understood things, committed mistakes, rectified bungles, dreamt, wished, wanted things to happen, wished things to not happen.

As I look back into the year, I see myself growing up, mentally. I have gained some things, lost too. I discovered some new aspects of myself, I found myself going for things I had never thought of, I made myself learn new things, I forgot some. I understood many things, I could make out the differences in realities and mirages.

But anyways, overall the year had been a mentor. The good things and the bad things taught.

And now, I am all set to march towards the new year. time for celebrations. Time for learning new ventures, new lessons, time to take new tests.

And, I choose not to take/ make any resolutions, I have decided to take the life as it comes to me.. :D

And here is one New year wish for all of you..

New Year’s Reality Check

Another year, another chance
To start our lives anew;
This time we’ll leap old barriers
To have a real breakthrough.
We’ll take one little step
And then we’ll take one more,
Our unlimited potential
We’ll totally explore.
We’ll show off all our talents
Everyone will be inspired;
(Whew! While I’m writing this,
I’m getting very tired.)
We’ll give up all bad habits;

We’ll read and learn a lot,
All our goals will be accomplished,
Sigh...or maybe not.

Oh well, Happy New Year anyway!

Is Expecting Human?

I have always had this theory to keep expectations low or to be precise, to zero.
This way, you can avoid hurting yourself..
I know expecting is a way of self torture.. When you expect something out of a person and it isn't fulfilled, you feel bad. so the easy way out is, dont expect. If the other person does something for you going out of his/her way, take it as a bonus.
Few days back, I was having a conversation with this friend of mine which got me into thinking mode (yeah, I know in a long time though).
She says, you may pretend to not expect, but it is human to expect and if you say, you don't expect, it is not being modest, rather you are escaping the truth.
I kept thinking over it and then finally reached the conclusion, she is right.
Any person who is close to you, may it be your parents, siblings, best friends, or a special one, you tend to do things for them even if you have to trouble yourself or go through terrible inconvenience, you do, it is because you want to.
And you want them to do things for you the same way. You want them to be there for you in the moments of distress. This may and may not be in return of what you do for them. It hurts you if they are unable to make it on time for you.
You may ignore it for once, but somethings you are incapable of letting go. At times, you start listing down the times you have been there for them and things you did for them and the times they weren't there for you.
You may not convey it to them, you may conceal that you are feeling bad but doesn't it get suffocating at times? It does. Blood relations kept aside, it starts driving you away from them. And if you convey it to them, this might result in a disagreement and sometimes frictions.

Expectations are confusing in themselves.

Deep down, we all have expectations. We just learn to suppress them. For once this may be convenient. But in the end, they bind you with your loved ones.

Why Me!!

For a change, this post isnt going to be Grammar and language oriented one.

The title of the post is apt. I am tired of saying "God try me". Rabb ji mera 'try' ka button press kar ke bhool gaye lagta hai.

I woke up in a rotten mood today. Why rotten, dont ask me. Might be some dream I dont remember. To add on to it, I felt inflated. AAArrggghhhh!! Gym me haddiyaan tudwa ke pagal ho gayi hoon and fir bhi inflated!! Kya musibat hai.
Zindagi jhandwa wala din hai aaj.

Was talking to a friend online and she was super pissed off on the very same old problem- shaadi. I fail to understand, is shaadi the centre of the universe?
I fail to understand the folks. They inculcate you with ambitions while you are growing up. Kuch karo, kuch banke dikhaao. Aur jab turn aati hai kuch ban ke dikhane ki toh pata nahi kahan se beech mein ye shaadi tapak padti hai. Shaadi karo. Acha aur to aur, pehle to sara din padho- padho aur kuch mat karo, aur fir suno padhayi mein reh gaye, koi ladka dhoondh hi lete. Kya musibat hai.
Okay, I love my folks, I know whatever they do is for my own best, but I am cribbing today. Dint I say I am rotten mood.

Aur suno abhi. Kuch log itne mean hote hain. Jab apna mann kara aa gaye mooh uthha ke aur jab zaroorat nahi hai toh poocho bhi na mud ke that why aren't you talking? Do you have some problem? As if the other person is problem-proof and emotions-proof.
As if hum to wehle hain. I am tired of being at some one else's disposal. Mujhe zyada aakhar aayi hui hai jo I have to drag the relationship? ( Am I the only desperate one?)
Koi na. Gin Gin ke badle loongi.

Sabse badi musibat toh batana bhool hi gayi. Yaar padhayi karna bada hi aukha kaam hai. (hard, difficult job). Aiwen hi bina zaroorat ki musibat mol le li hai maine!! Phew!! *Drains sweat off the forehead*

Bas haan bas. Kaafi hai aaj ke liye.

Thursday, April 9

"This is a shuttle cock. Not a tennis ball yaar".
Each time I hear this statement, I feel a pang deep inside.
Yesterday evening, it reached my ears. When Shreya, a kid from the neighbourhood asked me to play Badminton with her.
I have never known how to play Badminton. That is because, I have played Lawn Tennis. Always.
I was fascinated by this game. As a kid, I grew up watching my cousin playing it.

I still remember the day as such.
September 10, 1999
Playing against Surabhi Kalia. Distt Level.
I was one point behind her. When I suffered that Bronchitis attack. I went breathless and everything turned dark.
My mom says I was all blue.

You know how moms are.
I was forbidden to watch the game even on TV then on.

10 years almost.
Anyhow, they say, "life is what happens when everything is going fine".

P.S. I know I had never become a Sania Mirza. :D

Why do all Good Things come to an End?

First things first- yes, you have reached the same place, your very own 'Bare Twaddle'. Just that it is growing up and a few changes shall pertain. I could find no other apter title than 'Redefining Abstractións' for the blog, it means the same, somewhat maturer. :) Just stay tuned.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The title of this post I am talking about the same wonderful number by Nelly Furtado.
She says:

Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end...

i wonder at times, do all the good things come to an end? While we comfort someone, to lift up a friend's mood or to cheer up a buddy going through a low moments, we generally say things like 'bad times shall pass' or 'every dark cloud has a silver lining', but then provoking thoughts, all good things too come to an end.

I am an optimist, I firmly believe that things shall be okay.. On second thoughts, last night, I was watching this movie- Luck by Chance. (No, I am not gonna write a review of this movie, neither am I a go-go over Farhan Akhtar). Movie was all right, but the climax touched me particularly.
Its when Farhan Akhtar returns to Konkona, he tells her that he is sorry for what he did to her, and he thinks a lot about her, how had she stood by him in low times, and how she believed him when nobody did. And he apologises and asks her to come back.
The response of Konkana was unusually good for Hindi movies. She doesn't want to return back to him and so tells him that it is okay, she knows he is selfish and he proved that again. The things he told her were all about him that he needs her and he wants her to be his anchor, but never thought about her as an individual. what she wants, what she needs.

I loved the way how logically they portrayed that its not bad to think about yourself- after everything you do for the other person. At the end of the day, you are alone.. By yourself..

2009 Steps Ahead

I have grown up listening to a story that an Angel, who had very long, beautiful, curly hair, used to ask a naughty boy to catch it. The naughty boy was way too lazy to do so and took the Angel for granted. He thought that he'll catch it with its hair when it will tend to leave. And soon, the moment arrived when the angel decided to fly away and the boy, now desperate to catch it, was leaping towards the departing Angel's hair to get hold of it, but the Angel turned around and its hair disappeared. It was bald from the back. And the naughty boy stood repenting.

This Angel was Time.

Every year, with the arrival of December, I find myself in the shoes of that naughty boy. Another year of my life passes and I find myself wondering whether I have justified my one year of life..

Each year, things happen, things go right, things go wrong, we meet new people, become friends, lose some friendships, we achieve our goals, we miss our objectives, we realize things, we understand things, we commit mistakes, we rectify bungles, we dream, we wish, we want things to happen, we want things to not happen.

This is a never ending process.

And now, I am all set to march towards the new year. time for clebrations. Time for learning new ventures, new lessons, time to take new tests.

And, I choose not to take/ make any resolutions, I have decided to take the life as it comes to me.. :D

Here are my wishes for the new year---

Happiness deep down within.
Serenity with each sunrise.
Success in each facet of your life.
Family beside you.
Close and caring friends.
Health, inside you.
Love that never ends.
Special memories of all the yesterdays.
A bright today with much to be thankful for.
A path that leads to beautiful tomorrows.
Dreams that do their best to come true.
Appreciation of all the wonderful things about you.

And yeah, this post also marks a Century of my Random Thoughts i.e 100th post of the blog :)

Raising a toast for the occassion is a li'l bit old fashioned, so its the time to use the lemons 2008 threw at you, I am pouring all tequila shots :D

Cheers!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
